The 80/20 Visibility Method is the framework I keep coming back to with small business owners.

It’s simple: twenty percent of your visibility work drives eighty percent of the buyers who find you. That twenty percent is almost never social media.

It’s your Google Business Profile, updated weekly. It’s the first screen of your website answering one question clearly: what do you sell, and who is it for. It’s two or three review sources getting fed on a schedule, instead of hoped for.

That’s the eighty percent of the result. Everything else, the extra platforms, the daily posting, the constant content treadmill, is the cherry, not the cake.

What the twenty percent looks like for a service business

Google Business Profile with hours and service areas kept current. A website home page that answers “do you do what I need, near me” in the first five seconds. A simple ask built into every job completion: would you leave us a review.

What it looks like for a retail or online business

Product pages that answer the buying question before the browsing question. Store hours and inventory basics visible without a click. Reviews surfaced where a new visitor actually sees them, not buried on a separate page.

What it looks like for a hybrid

Same three pillars, split attention. The Google profile carries local trust. The website carries the online buying decision. Reviews do double duty: proof for both.

Most small business owners over-invest in the amplifier and under-invest in the foundation. Fix the foundation first. The rest gets easier.
